for multifamily residents. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmhc.org\/research-insight\/research-report\/nmhc-grace-hill-renter-preferences-survey-report\">More than one-third of renters<\/a> surveyed are interested in at-home charging as an amenity and <a href=\"https:\/\/chargeathome.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Charge-at-Home-EV-Charging-at-MFH-Properties.pdf\">nearly 50%<\/a> say they are considering an EV as their next vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xxs-12\">\n<p>While 80% of EV charging takes place at home, an <a href=\"https:\/\/driveelectric.gov\/files\/webinar-2023-04-25-community-charging-market-scan.pdf\">estimated 5% or less<\/a> of that is at a multifamily property. This is often due to a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sitelogiq.com\/blog\/what-teslas-supercharger-pullback-means-for-commercial-real-estate-owners\/\">charging gap<\/a>,\u201d which is a top reason some drivers hesitate to make the switch from all-gasoline vehicles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xxs-12\">\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/sitelogiq.com\/markets\/commercial-real-estate\/multifamily-housing\/\">multifamily property owners<\/a>, this demand creates both a challenge and an opportunity. Installing EV charging stations helps modernize your properties, attract and retain residents, move towards sustainability and ESG goals, and boost investor confidence. Still, installing EV charging infrastructure can be costly\u2014between equipment, labor, potential utility upgrades, and the electricity to power stations, these expenses add up.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xxs-12\">\n<p>While there are plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/sitelogiq.com\/blog\/how-multifamily-owners-can-overcome-ev-charging-installation-capital-constraints\/\">low or no-CapEx funding options<\/a> to reduce upfront installation costs, some multifamily owners may also qualify for Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) programs for ongoing financial return.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xxs-12\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Programs<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xxs-12\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sitelogiq.com\/blog\/how-low-carbon-fuel-credits-can-offset-the-cost-of-ev-infrastructure\/\">LCFS is a market-based program<\/a> designed to reduce transportation emissions by rewarding the use of cleaner fuels, like electricity for EVs. Each time electricity replaces gasoline or diesel, it lowers carbon emissions, and those reductions can be converted into LCFS credits.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xxs-12\">\n<p>These credits are bought and sold on a private, regulated market where fuel producers purchase them to offset their carbon output.
