To begin with, let\u2019s talk about simple sentences and the components that make them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Simple Sentence Pattern<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A simple sentence will usually include at least two parts, the subject, and predicate. A common sentence structure is in three parts: subject + predicate (verb) + object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike English, most of the time in a simple Chinese sentence, the predicate is a verb, although sometimes it can be an adjective. For this guide, we will refer to the predicate as a verb, unless stated otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is known as the <strong>trunk<\/strong> of a simple sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trunk Examples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/#sk=(%E6%88%91)%E7%9A%84%E5%A6%88%E5%A6%88%5B%E5%B7%B2%E7%BB%8F%5D%E5%8E%BB%3C%E8%BF%87%3E(%E4%BD%A0)%E7%9A%84%E5%AD%A6%E6%A0%A1%E4%BA%86%E3%80%82&amp;svt=pinyin\" (w\u00e8i y\u01d4): part of a sentence containing a verb that relates to the subject.<br>Object <a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/worddetail\/binyu\/82125\/2\/1\" target=\"_blank\" In the eg, the object is \u5e02\u573a (market).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will now look at attributives, adverbs, and complements in more detail:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attributives in Chinese Sentences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An<strong> attributive<\/strong> &#8216; ( ) &#8216; is an additional component of the subject (\u4e3b\u8bed) and object (\u5bbe\u8bed) to modify.
