Sharing your own opinions in Chinese is the next step to being able to communicate with friends about topics that are important to you. Saying ‘\u6211\u77e5\u9053’ (I know) or ‘\u6211\u660e\u767d’ (I understand) has it’s limitations and learning some words and sentences that will help you express your feelings and improve your understanding of Chinese culture and language.<\/p>\n

Chinese Words and Phrases for Giving Advice and Sharing Opinions<\/h2>\n

\u60f3<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(xi\u01ceng)\u00a0– to think<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The \u60f3<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(xi\u01ceng)\u00a0character has multiple meanings such as \u2018to think\u2019, \u2018to miss\u2019 or \u2018believe something\u2019. \u60f3<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(xi\u01ceng)\u00a0is composed of 3 parts; \u5fc3<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(x\u012bn) meaning \u2018heart\u2019, \u6728<\/a>\u00a0(m\u00f9) which is \u2018tree\u2019 and an \u2018eye\u2019 \u76ee<\/a>\u00a0(m\u00f9).Together, they create phonetics and meaning. \u6728<\/a>\u00a0(m\u00f9) and \u76ee<\/a>\u00a0(m\u00f9) also create the character \u76f8<\/a>\u00a0(xi\u00e0ng) meaning \u2018appearance\u2019. The origin of \u76f8 (xi\u00e0ng)suggests that a person would need to stand behind a \u2018tree\u2019 and peer out from behind it, suggesting the need to look and check for danger. \u76f8<\/a>\u00a0(xi\u00e0ng) together with \u5fc3<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(x\u012bn) producing \u60f3 (xi\u01ceng)\u00a0could refer to the idea of \u2018examining\u2019 the \u2018heart or mind\u2019.<\/p>\n

Although it is tempting to use it, \u6211\u4e0d\u60f3<\/a><\/span>\u3002\u3002\u3002(w\u01d2 b\u00f9 xi\u01ceng\u2026)\u00a0\u00a0is not correct\u00a0and is used to express the phrase \u2018I do not want..\u2019<\/p>\n

\u6211\u60f3\u4ed6\u4e0d\u5e05<\/a><\/span>\u3002(w\u01d2 xi\u01ceng t\u0101 b\u00f9 shu\u00e0i)\u00a0I don’t think he is handsome.<\/p>\n

\u770b<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(k\u00e0n)\u00a0– to look, consider, think<\/h3>\n

If you can imagine someone covering their eyes \u76ee<\/a>\u00a0(m\u00f9)\u00a0 from the sun with their hand \u624b (sh\u01d2u)\u00a0and tada, you have the \u770b (k\u00e0n)\u00a0character.<\/p>\n

Although this character is mostly used to describe the verb \u2018to look\u2019, it is also used to mean \u2018consider\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u89c9\u5f97<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(ju\u00e9 de) – to feel, consider<\/h3>\n

To understand the \u89c9<\/a><\/span>\u00a0character a little more, we can take a look at the traditional character, \u89ba<\/a><\/span>. If you look at the bottom radical, it contains a traditional version of the character \u89c1<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(ji\u00e0n)\u00a0meaning \u2018to see\u2019. It makes more sense when you see that originally, \u89c1 (ji\u00e0n)\u00a0was an \u2018eye\u2019 \u76ee (m\u00f9)\u00a0on top of a \u2018person\u2019 \u4eba (r\u00e9n).<\/p>\n

\u6211\u89c9\u5f97\u8fd9\u6ca1\u95ee\u9898<\/a><\/span>\u3002(w\u01d2 ju\u00e9\u00a0de zh\u00e8 m\u00e9i\u00a0w\u00e8n\u00a0t\u00ed)\u00a0I think it is alright.<\/p>\n

If you want to ask someone\u2019s advice one something, you can use the bigram \u8bf7\u6559<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(q\u01d0ng\u00a0ji\u00e0o). You\u2019ve probably seen both characters separately, as \u2018please\u2019 \u8bf7 (q\u01d0ng)and \u2018teach\u2019 \u6559 (ji\u00e0o)\u00a0.<\/p>\n

\u6211\u6709\u4e00\u4ef6\u4e8b\u60f3\u8981\u8bf7\u6559\u4f60\uff0c\u53ef\u4ee5\u5417<\/a><\/span>\uff1f(w\u01d2 y\u01d2u y\u012b ji\u00e0n sh\u00ec xi\u01ceng\u00a0y\u00e0o\u00a0q\u01d0ng\u00a0ji\u00e0o n\u01d0, k\u011b\u00a0y\u01d0<\/p>\n

This is the kind of phrase people might use when they have only just met.<\/p>\n
