Eggs, usually boiled in a brine or tea are super cheap and can be bought from a street stand and even 7\/11. My particular favourite breakfast food is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/worddetail\/baozi\/5826\/3\/1\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u5305\u5b50<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">b\u0101o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> zi)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For this reason, Dimsum is also known as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/worddetail\/hecha\/4624\/3\/1\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u559d\u8336<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">h\u0113<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ch\u00e1)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> meaning to \u2018drink tea\u2019 and is most frequently enjoyed between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>WHAT IS\u00a0SH\u0100O\u00a0M\u00c0I?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In China, Dimsum is also consumed for breakfast. Enter, the steamed dumpling. You might have come across this character in the bigram for barbeque <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/worddetail\/shaokao\/15381\/3\/1\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u70e7\u70e4<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sh\u0101o<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">k\u01ceo). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/worddetail\/mai\/8240\/1\/1\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u5356<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (m\u00e0i) seems like a strange character to use for a food, as it usually means \u2018to sell\u2019. There\u2019s an interesting story behind the use of this character, which goes something like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People originally made and sold steamed buns \u5305\u5b50 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">b\u0101o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> zi)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but began making the steamed dumplings and selling them alongside the \u5305\u5b50. Customers asked what the name of the dumpling was, and the seller told them that it was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.writtenchinese.com\/#sk=%E6%8D%8E%E5%B8%A6%E7%9D%80%E5%8D%96%E7%9A%84&amp;svt=pinyin\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u634e\u5e26\u7740\u5356\u7684<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sh\u0101o <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d\u00e0i <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">zhe <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">m\u00e0i de), which means \u2018to be sold incidentally\u2019.
