Bilibili was originally associated primarily with Japanese Animation, Comic and Game culture (ACG), but has now become a hub for user-generated content and vloggers.<\/span><\/p>\n

In China, vlogs have become known as <\/span>\u4e0b\u996d\u89c6\u9891<\/span><\/a> (<\/span>xi\u00e0 f\u00e0n sh\u00ec<\/span> p\u00edn) that might best be translated as \u2018to go well with rice video\u2019. Essentially, <\/span>\u4e0b\u996d is used in Chinese to refer to a dish that helps rice \u2018go down\u2019 due to the often bland nature of white boiled rice. In this modern age, where young people live alone in the city, they often watch vlogs whilst eating a meal to keep them company during their dinner. More so, due to the nature of a vlog, where a person is talking to the audience, it\u2019s like having dinner with a friend!<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I watch Chinese vloggers for enjoyment, you can also use vlogs to learn about Chinese culture and also to learn Chinese from native speakers. Many of the vlogs also have Chinese subtitles, so you can easily pause and check a character you don\u2019t know. Additionally, each vlog is only around 5-10 minutes, making them easier to digest.<\/span><\/p>\n
